The inaugural Carrollton Book Fest will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 9:00 am to 5 pm (Doors open at 8:30 am). Carrollton Writers Guild, Inc. and Carrollton Center for the Arts are the proud organizers of this event. The activities include panel discussions, lectures, readings by featured authors and workshops.  Bren McClain will present a keynote speech at the end of the day. Her novel, One Good Mama Bone: A Novel, is published by Pat Conroy’s Story Book River Books and has received numerous commendations. Many local and regional authors representing a variety of genres will be present and ready to autograph books.

Lectures, panel discussions and featured author session are free and open to the public. The two workshops require registration and a workshop fee. See the Workshop Tab for registration.

Bren McClain

Bren McClain was born and raised in Anderson, South Carolina on a beef cattle and grain farm. She has a degree in English from Furman University, is an experienced media relations, radio, and television news professional, and currently works as a communications confidence coach. She is a two-time winner of the South Carolina Fiction Project and the recipient of the 2005 Fiction Fellowship by the South Carolina Arts Commission.  McClain won the 2016 William Faulkner–William Wisdom Novel-in-Progress for "Took" and was a finalist in the 2012 Pirate's Alley Faulkner Award for Novel-in-Progress for One Good Mama Bone.  This is McClain's first novel.

Supporting the growth of new and published writers in West Georgia, the Carrollton Writers Guild hosts read and critique groups in Just Poetry, Just Prose, Just Memoir, and Just Saturday (prose, poetry and memoir). We also organize and present learning opportunities focused on writing and editing skills at local libraries and the Center for the Arts. For more information, visit the Carrolltonwritersguild.org. The Carrollton Writers Guild is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is supported by donations from individuals, businesses, and other organizations.
